Search (Reference)

References are in the format: BOOK CHAPTER:VERSE. Most often, references are applied to the Bible (e.g. Genesis 1:1). Some modules are not based on the Bible (e.g. Apocrypha, Mishna, Pirkei Avot...) but references are created according to the same rules (1 Maccabees 14:21, Berakhot 1:1, Avot 3:15...)

There is a special tag for references, which is used in books, lexicons, writings or notes modules.

Use the tab Reference in the Search dialog.

1) Entering a reference from a reference tag:

If a module uses reference tags, then you can use right click and select the Search... command. It displays the Search dialog which is switched to the Reference tab, with the module preset, and the reference inserted in the combo box. It is the most convenient way to enter reference for search.

2) Entering a reference manually:

The Combo box for the reference has no edit field. Instead of typing references, press button New reference... This displays a dialog, where you can select the range of references according radio buttons below. There are two possibilies:

- Reference on the base of Bible (66 books, standard division)

New reference... button will open dialog for creation of reference (or reference range). This dialog is predefined according standard Bible division and order of the books, as is in KJV+ module. You can create single reference (e.g. Proverbs 8:22) or reference range (e.g. Proverbs 8:22-24).

For the first case, work only in left part of range dialog and create reference, second part of reference will be kept automatically the same (e.g. Proverbs 8:1 - Proverbs 8:1) and will be recognized as single reference.

For second case, when you want to create reference range, select first in left part reference (from) and then in right part reference (to).

In both cases, you can use command line field, where enter only one reference or two references for range (and separated by '-' character).

- Reference on the base of opened book module

If you want to create reference for some Bible translation with different numbering of verses or book order, use this option. Also, use for any non biblical book, e.g. Apocrypha, Mishna, Pirkei Avot. Select this option and select from combo box below book module as base for reference creation. When you click to New reference... button, dialog will be predefined according selected book.

Important note: it is also possible to search for references in lexicons, writings and notes. These modules have a different structure and no information about division into books, chapters or verses (in reference). If you want to use command New reference... to create a new reference search in a lexicon, you MUST to choose either reference on the base of Bible or to have choose some opened book of the same type, as the reference which you plan to search. This is not necessary if you insert reference for searching from reference tag (see point 1 above).
